Saturday and Festival Horse !
Charlie Johnston rang to mark our card prior to the February Horses In Training Sale at Newmarket, to alert us to the fact that the, current, Arabian based owner of Society Man was looking to move him on, but that he’d thoroughly recommend him and he’d love to have him back. Society Man already has a Lincoln Handicap entry, which we intend to take up, en route to many a top handicap throughout the 2025 season.
We were already familiar with the form of SOCIETY MAN, given he had finished one place in front of our very own Bobby Bennu in January, a form line which boasts as good a handicap form as you will experience, certainly at this time of the year. Society Man has only been with Charlie Johnston for around a dozen weeks or so, and Charlie admits to “only just getting to know him properly” alluding to his opinion that there could, potentially, be plenty of improvement to come. We think he’s perhaps a 100 rated animal who resides, currently, off a mark of 90 and offers the opportunity of a reasonable amount of wiggle room, therefore, in this regard.
Distances of 7f & a mile probably see him to optimum effect and he’s proven very versatile, to date, with regard to underfoot conditions, be they turf or All Weather. He does seem to revel in HEAVY ground however, which is a HUGE bonus for the beginning and end of the Flat season, in races like the Balmoral on Ascot’s Champions’ Day card, or, should the heavens to open just ahead of a Victoria Cup, International Handicap or Royal Hunt Cup - all held at the Berkshire track, mid season. Clearly, he’s fit and ready to go, having raced, most recently, only a small number of days ago - together we can start to plot, alongside Charlie his route to glory - fingers crossed!
We’d envisaged having to fork out considerably more than the 22,000gns, at which the hammer came down in our favour given his form levels and earning potential, going forward - it’s fair to say we consider him a bargain at the price - a ‘no brainer’ if you like!
We’d recommend you jump aboard - he’s a Saturday & Festival horse!
