David Nicholls began training in 1992. After a successful career as a jockey he decided to turn his hand to training, and what a decision this has proved to be. David started training with only 5 horses with the help of his wife, champion lady Jockey Alex Greaves, he now has around 100 under his care. Dandy is the "sprint king" in Britain and is very astute at taking other trainers cast offs who have lost their way and getting them back to their peak. Dandy is now one of the major players in all the top handicaps and group level. Dandy has trained and continues to train top class horses, most of all high class sprinters. Some of these are, Regal Parade winner of the group 1 Betfred Sprint Cup, Continent , Rudi's Pet and Bahamian Pirate; July Cup and Prix de L'Abbaye . He won the Group 1 Nunthorpe with Ya Malak who was a ‘has-been' until Dandy got hold of him. A look at David's recent training record is like a Who's Who? of sprinting and sprinters; Indian Trail, Tax Free, Exceptional Art, Lafi , BLACKHEATH , Cryhavoc , Zuhair , Sihafi, Tayseer, Further Outlook, Continent, Flak Jacket, Tayif, Loyal Tycoon, Only Time Will Tell, Eton, Mister Rambo, American Cousin, Bailieborough, Captain Rio and so on. The list goes on. And Dandy is also excellent with his Juveniles, he has his fair share of 2yo winners and some top class ones to, including in 2009 Layla's hero who won 3 Listed races in his last 3 races as a 2yo and has a real future. Dandy trains many of our good horses and in recent seasons he has done wonders with Fol hollow who only cost 2,500 gns as a yearling and has won £75,000 in prizemoney and is worth in excess of £70,000! We purchased Exceptional Art for £41,000 during this year with Dandy and he won the Beverley Bullet listed race picking up £23,000 in prizemoney before being sold for £180,000 a month later! Something who he has managed to get placed in many £90,000 handicaps and who looks sure to win one before to long. You won't find a better trainer in the whole world than Dandy and you also won't find a nicer guy to boot!
