Race entries

We think he represents “Exceptional Value”

We locked onto this colt, from the moment he breezed in front of us on Wednesday morning. We rated him as one of the most visually impressive breezes on the day from the 200+ cohort of breezers and on reviewing his breeze on the video playback, we noticed that his worst furlong was his first furlong, he just seems to get unbalanced going into the dip of Newmarket’s Rowley Mile breeze up course, but then gets his act together as he hits the rising ground and his final fractions sit him comfortably in the top 4% of performers in the timed 2.3f race. In our opinion you simply cannot fault the second half of his breeze, an opinion that’s backed up by the clock.

There’s plenty of quality, black type 2yo genes in his pedigree including Champion 2yo’s no less, which combines beautifully with the Mastercraftsman genes of his sire who has a great influence for siring progressive individuals. Physically, he’s still a little “up behind” which means his backside is higher than the withers of his shoulders, meaning he’s enjoying a growing phase and that he will rate a fair bit taller than he currently measures, eventually. To be achieving what he’s achieving on the clock, so early in his nascent career is a huge testament to his natural levels of ability. He rates a fabulous prospect, going forward, and can only improve as he matures physically.

Given the whole of racing seems to be looking for a quick fix, these days, and that this beautifully dark bay colt has areas for significant improvement, combined with his sire Mastercraftsman having been shelved from the fashionable sires’ list, we knew he could represent fantastic value, through the ring. We were delighted to secure him for just 25,000gns, which qualifies him for Band C races, where opposition cohorts are initially limited, and he’d look a fantastic prospect to shed his maiden tag in one of those, before graduating on, all being well, to bigger and better things. He’ll probably start off over 6f as a 2yo, but we could see him stretching out to a mile or a mile and a quarter next year.

One of the very best sons of the great Mastercraftsman, was the top-class performer MASTER CARPENTER, whose illustrious career was masterminded by Rod Millman, so, we thought, who better to ask to train him than Rod himself? Rod was delighted to take him and he’s en route, as we speak, to Rod’s Devon base.

We can’t wait to hear how he’s settled in and to receive one of Rod’s fabulous video updates regarding the colt’s progress to the track.

Training update (10th May): Rod loves this colt, he has relaxed into his new life in the yard so well and stalls practise went well. He's pretty fit and almost ready to run. His new racing name is just being formalised. His race entries/declarations, will show on this page.

Narrated update from Rod (10th May):
